why organic?
Acha Bacha chooses
organic cotton because it means better health for our customers, farmers, the
planet, and all her creatures.

Organic cotton comes from non-genetically modified plants which are certified to
be grown without the use of synthetic chemicals such as fertilizers and
pesticides. It is more expensive than conventional cotton; however the value is
tremendous. We believe babies deserve the highest quality products and have
designed an exclusively organic line to protect their delicate immune systems as
they grow.
Organic baby products reduce the amount of chemical exposure to our rapidly
developing infants. From birth until age three, babiesʼ bodies and brains grow
faster and are most vulnerable to environmental toxins. Because babies are
smaller, they absorb more pesticides per pound of body weight than adults. As a
result, toxins stay in their system longer and have a greater impact on their
development. Not only is it healthier, organic cotton is softer and stronger
than conventional cotton which makes it more aesthetically pleasing and durable.
Clothing made of polyester and acrylic emits toxic vapors containing chemicals
that can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin. This is why natural fibers
feel healthier and cozy next to your skin.
In addition to the tremendous benefits organic cotton provides for our babies
health, it is also increasingly valuable for our planet. Conventional cotton
production uses more chemicals per unit than any other crop, accounting for 16
percent of the world's pesticides even though it only covers 2.5 percent of the
world's cultivated land. These chemicals pollute the air and surface water of
our earth. It can take almost one third of a pound of synthetic fertilizer to
grow only one pound of raw cotton and it takes just under one pound of cotton to
make one t-shirt.
Acha Bacha products are made exclusively in India, the world leader in the
production of organic cotton. India contributes half of the world's output, as
certified by Control Union SKAL International under Global Organic Textile
Standards. Organic farming practices in India have given farmers higher crop
yields, lower growing costs, and decreased health issues. In villages growing
conventional cotton, there is excessive debt and failed crop yields due to
devastating ecological imbalances resulting from unsustainable agricultural
practices required to cultivate conventional non-organic crops. Even though
organic farming is more labor intensive, it has increased the number of cotton
cycles (from one to five) that farmers can harvest from a single plant. Locals
have found that the nutrient value of the land is returning, farmers have
more income, and they feel healthier.
We choose organic cotton because we want to keep your baby healthy and the
planet they live on.
